What do you think about when you hear the phrase "we need to talk?"
This interactive sculpture was a discursive design exhibit in JMU’s Duke Hall Gallery of Fine Art. This exhibition gave visitors the opportunity to listen, read, speak, sing, whisper and shout into a collection of analog amplifiers. Surrounding the exhibit were responses to the prompt, “we need to talk,” encouraging visitors to empathize with others.
This project was designed by Industrial Design professors Audrey Barnes and Kevin Phaup, with collaboration from undergraduate students Kriszten Szakal, Harper Kelly, and Paul Policastro.
The wooden pieces are made from maple and walnut. They were crafted using a combination of various techniques, including CNC machining, bent lamination, and skin on frame techniques.
